PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Marquel Blackwell passed for 343 yards and four touchdowns as South Florida posted a 35-26 upset of Pittsburgh, which was without star wide receiver Antonio Bryant. Blackwell completed 37-of-65 passes, including a 22-yard TD strike to Brian Fisher that gave the Panthers (1-1) a 28-7 lead with 5:55 remaining in the third quarter. Bryant was sidelined with a sprained left ankle he suffered during a 78-yard punt return in last week's contest against East Tennessee State. It was the first win over a major Division I-A program for the Panthers, who did field a team until 1997. South Florida's only previous victory over a Division I-A school came last season against Connecticut. Pittsburgh (1-1) closed to 28-26 on David Priestley's 10-yard TD pass to R.J. English with 7:39 remaining. The Panthers were forced to go for a two-point conversion since Nick Lotz missed the extra point following Pittsburgh's previous touchdown and Priestley's pass fell incomplete. South Florida clinched the victory on Blackwell's one-yard TD run with 4:31 left. Priestley completed 28-of-45 passes for 354 yards with three touchdowns and an interception for the Panthers. Blackwell combined with DeAndrew Rubin for TD strikes of 14 and 15 yards in the first quarter to give South Florida a 14-0 lead. Pittsburgh, which received votes in this week's coaches poll, was denied its first 2-0 start since 1991.
