HOUSTON (Ticker) -- D. Bryant fumbled the snap on the potential tying two-point conversion and was intercepted in the final minute as Rice held on for a 15-13 victory over winless Duke. Duke (0-2) climbed within 15-13 with 96 seconds remaining on a three-yard toss from Bryant to tight end Nick Brzezinski. But Bryant mishandled the snap on the two-point conversion. After the Blue Devils got back the ball with 40 seconds to play, Bryant was picked off by safety Greg Gatlin at the Rice 35-yard line. Kyle Herm passed for 116 yards and opened the scoring with a one-yard run for Rice, which is 2-0 for the first time since 1991. The Owls travel to fourth-ranked Nebraska next week in search of their first 3-0 start in 29 years. Chris Douglas gave Duke a 7-6 lead early in the second quarter when his five-yard run capped a 67-yard drive. The Owls grabbed a 9-7 halftime edge on a 22-yard field goal by Brandon Skeen and extended it on a one-yard TD by Jamie Tyler. Rice was outgained, 328 yards to 270, but forced three turnovers en route to its first win over Duke in five tries. Bryant completed 15-of-25 passes for 189 yards while Douglas rushed for 112 yards on 30 carries. But the Blue Devils suffered their 14th straight loss.
