PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Tavares Bolden threw two touchdown passes to Carl Ford and Chester Taylor rushed for a pair of scores as Toledo overcame 19 penalties to post a sloppy 33-7 victory over Temple. Bolden opened the scoring with an 80-yard touchdown pass -- the second-longest of his career -- to Ford with 6:30 remaining in the first quarter. He had an 83-yard completion last season against Bowling Green. Todd France kicked a pair of field goals in the second quarter, including a 20-yarder as time expired, to give the Rockets (2-0) a 13-0 halftime lead. Bolden and Ford combined for a 20-yard TD strike to make it 19-0 with 8:37 left in the third quarter before Taylor added scoring runs of 13 and one yards in the final period. Toledo was penalized for 192 yards but took advantage of five Temple turnovers. The Owls also did not help their cause with 13 penalties for 98 yards and minus-27 yards rushing. Tanardo Sharps was Temple's leading rusher, gaining seven yards on 12 carries. The Owls (1-1) could have gotten on the board in the first quarter, but Jared Davis and Cap Poklemba each had field goal attempts hit the metal. Davis missed a 44-yarder off the left upright early in the game before Poklemba's 30-yarder caromed off the right upright midway through the quarter. Bolden completed 16-of-26 passes for 227 yards and three interceptions. Temple got its only points on backup Mike McGann's 11-yard TD pass to Greg Muckerson with eight minutes remaining. McGann was just 5-of-17 for 60 yards in relief of starter Devin Scott, who completed 7-of-13 for 99 yards. Bolden was held to 99 yards on 22 carries after rushing for 145 yards in last week's 38-7 victory over Minnesota.
