LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Freshman Ivory McCann returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and Kliff Kingsbury threw for 364 yards and three touchdowns as Texas Tech defeated New Mexico, 42-30. The Lobos closed within 21-17 on a 21-yard field goal by Vladimir Borombozin with 11:59 left in the third quarter before McCann fielded the ensuing kickoff eight yards deep in the end zone and raced down the field untouched. Kingsbury connected on a 32-yard tocuhdown pass to running back Ricky Williams with 12:50 left in the game as the Red Raiders built a 35-17 cushion. Paul McClendon returned a 54-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown three minutes later as Texas Tech opened its largest lead, 42-17. The Red Raiders used their aerial assault to pile up 426 offensive yards, rushing for 94. Nehemiah Glover was Kingsbury's favorite target, catching nine passes for 102 yards. Williams recorded 147 yards of total offense. He had seven catches for 89 yards and rushed for 58 yards on 14 carries. The Lobos made it respectable in the final four minutes on Jarrod Baxter's four-yard touchdown run and a 20-yard touchdown pass from Rudy Caamano to Rashau Sanders. Baxter had 110 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns for Texas, which picked up 210 of its 332 total yards on the ground.
