WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Tarence Williams eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the second straight week as Wake Forest remained unbeaten under new coach Jim Grobe with a 20-10 victory over Division I-AA Appalachian State.

Williams rushed for 116 yards on 25 carries after gaining 158 yards in last week's 21-19 upset win at East Carolina.

Jimmy Watkins' 11-yard TD run and Erik Rockhold's 36-yard field goal in the second quarter gave Appalachian State (1-1) a 10-3 lead.

But Wake Forest's Tyler Ashe kicked a 33-yard field goal with one second remaining in the half and the Demon Deacons (2-0) took control with 14 unanswered points in the third quarter.

Wake Forest grabbed a 13-10 lead on Anthony Young's 23-yard TD pass to Fabian Davis with 6:03 remaining and added insurance on John Stone's eight-yard TD run with 1:26 to go in the period.

James MacPherson completed 7-of-13 for 95 yards for Wake Forest, while Young was 5-of-6 for 79 yards.

Jimmy Watkins paced Appalachian State on the ground with 77 yards on 16 carries, while Joe Burchette completed 15-of-25 for 125 yards with two interceptions.

Wake Forest increased its lead in the all-time series to 14-7-1. All 22 games have been played in Winston-Salem.

Appalachian State, which is ranked sixth in the Division I-AA poll, opened with a 46-26 victory over Liberty last week.
