BOISE, Idaho (Ticker) -- For a school with strong ties to the Humanitarian Bowl, Boise State doesn't care much for the welfare of Texas El Paso. Ryan Dinwiddie threw a trio of touchdown passes and Brock Forsey and David Mikell combined for 214 yards rushing and three scores as Boise State routed UTEP, 41-17, in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both schools. It also was a rematch of last season's Humanitarian Bowl, which Boise State won, 38-23. The Broncos (1-2, 1-0 WAC) won the postseason game each of the past two years on their home field. Boise State held a slim 21-17 lead before Dinwiddie threw a seven-yard TD pass to Billy Wingfield 29 seconds before halftime. Dinwiddie threw only 13 passes but completed eight of them for 155 yards. He had a 25-yard TD pass to Jeb Putzier and a 32-yarder to Jay Swillie in the second quarter. Forsey and Mikell accounted for the scoring in the second half, finding the end zone from two and 29 yards, respectively, in the fourth quarter. Mikell had opened the scoring with a seven-yard run with 5:37 to go in the first quarter. He carried 12 times for 82 yards while Forsey rushed 32 times for 132 yards. Chris Porter gained 139 yards on 23 carries for the Miners (1-2, 0-1), who were coming off a 52-6 win over Texas Southern two weeks ago. Wesley Phillips was 16-of-28 for 153 yards with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions for UTEP.
