BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (Ticker) -- Bowling Green returned a pair of turnovers and an onside kick for touchdowns and continued its best start in 16 years with a 42-23 victory over Temple. Chad Long returned a fumble 30 yards for a score, Brandon Hicks scampered 31 yards with an interception and Janssen Patton sprinted 42 yards for a TD off a failed onside kick. The three cornerbacks helped the Falcons (3-0) to their first 3-0 start since 1985, when they opened 11-0 before losing the California Bowl to Fresno State. Temple (1-2) held a 356-248 advantage in total yards but had four of the game's seven turnovers. Long opened the scoring 2:51 into the game before defensive end Raheem Brock returned an interception 59 yards for a score with 4:32 left in the first quarter to tie the game. Quarterback Andy Sahm gave Bowling Green the lead for good, 14-7, with a one-yard plunge midway through the second quarter. He added TD passes of 45 and 28 yards in the second half. Hicks made it 21-10 just ovcr a minute into the third quarter and Patton capped the scoring with 2:58 to play after Temple had gotten within 35-23. Backup quarterbacks Mac Devito and Colin Hannigan each had TD passes in the final 16 minutes for the Owls. Starter Mike McGann was 23-of-46 for 256 yards with three interceptions. Sahm completed 16-of-22 passes for 186 yards with two TDs and two interceptions. The teams combined for 83 yards rushing.
