GREENVILLE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- David Garrard threw for three touchdowns and ran for another score to lead East Carolina to a 38-23 victory over I-AA William & Mary.

Garrard's 30-yard touchdown pass to Leonard Henry with 12:31 left in the third quarter gave East Carolina the lead for good at 21-14.

He also tossed a three-yard TD pass to Marcus White and a 56-yard TD strike to Torey Miller as the Pirates (2-1) opened a 35-17 lead after three periods.

William & Mary, ranked 19th in Division I-AA, hung tough in the first half and knotted the score, 14-14, on Komlan Lonergan's 11-yard touchdown run with 17 seconds left in the first half.

But Garrard completed 12-of-24 passes for 245 yards, including the three third-quarter scores. He now has 7,424 yards passing at East Carolina, surpassing Marcus Crandell as the school's all-time passer.

Henry rushed for 111 yards on just 13 carries, topping the century mark for the seventh time in his career. He has 2,030 career rushing yards, the 14th player in East Carolina history to reach that milestone.

The Tribe (2-1) held a huge edge in time of possession, 42:17 to 17:43 and outgained East Carolina, 472-444.
