ANNAPOLIS, Maryland (Ticker) -- On a campus where football has always known its place, the tragedies of last week have been felt by every student because of the life they have chosen. Just playing on Saturday afternoon was a victory unto itself.

Navy suffered a 38-21 loss to Boston college at Marine Corps Stadium in front of 30,064 on a day that the Academy paid tribute to those killed in the terrorist attacks of 11 days ago, including 15 former Midshipmen.

"Our players are expected to perform at a higher level because they are at the Academy -- on the football field, in the classroom and in public," Navy coach Charlie Weatherbie said. "They are held to excellence."

The Midshipmen fell to 0-3, but the day more belonged to the country. The March-On of the Brigade of Midshipmen was followed by a moment silence and a fly-by of four F-5 fighters from Naval Air Station Fallon in Nevada.

After the game's conclusion, MIDN 1/C Gary Roznovsky, who also performed the National Anthem, sang "God Bless America" and the teams stood together for the playing of both school's alma maters.

"An incident like this puts things in perspective as to why we are really hear," said Navy quarterback Brian Madden. "We are here to eventually keep our country safe."

Coached by another Navy graduate, Tom O'Brien, Boston College rode the fourth touchdown passes of Brian St. Pierre and William Green's 178 rushing yards to their second victory in three games this season.

"It think it was tough on everyone and we knew that we were getting into by coming here to play," said O'Brien.

O'Brien brought the Eagles to Annapolis as part of his 30-year reunion and the Eagles fell behind just over four minutes into the contest when freshman Brian Madden hit Jeff Gaddy or a 49-yard touchdown into the left corner of the end zone.

Boston College, however, tied it on St. Pierre's first scoring strike of the afternoon, a 14-yard TD toss to Frank Musurelli with 2 1/2 minutes to play in the opening quarter.

After the teams traded touchdowns in the opening minutes of the second period, the Eagles took the lead for good at 21-14 with 7:23 remaining in the second period when St. Pierre hit Ryan Read for a 25-yard TD.

St. Pierre completed 19-of-25 passes for 247 yards without being picked off. In the final minute of the half he hit Green, who carried 33 times, for a 13-yard score that gave Boston College a two-touchdown advantage entering the locker room.

Madden was 4-of-9 for 124 yards and was picked off twice while also leading the Midshipmen in rushing with 106 yards on 32 attempts.

Boston College's Dedrick Dewalt totaled 49 yards on four receptions.
