RENO, Nevada (Ticker) -- David Neill threw two of his three touchdown passes in the third quarter as Nevada rallied for a 28-20 victory over Hawaii in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both schools. The game originally was scheduled for September 15 but was postponed until Saturday in the wake of terrorist attacks in the United States. Freshman Chance Kretschmer rushed for 162 yards for Nevada (1-2, 1-0 WAC), which wore down Hawaii (1-1, 0-1), holding a 451-348 advantage in total yards. The Warriors had three separate leads but dropped their fifth straight visit to the mainland and fell to 2-4 in the all-time series. Neill snapped a 13-13 tie 2:51 into the third quarter, finding Nate Burleson from nine yards for a score. With 2:27 left in the period, Neill threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Brown for a 25-13 lead. Nevada had an extra-point attempt blocked and failed on a two-point try after Neill's final two TD passes. Neill completed 21-of-28 passes for 231 yards for the Wolf Pack, who dropped their first two games of the season to Brigham Young and Colorado State by a combined score of 87-25. Kretschmer, who rushed for 208 yards in his first two games, carried a career-high 31 times. Timmy Chang was 25-of-37 for 303 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for Hawaii, which plays two of its next three games on the road before finishing with six home games -- one against 15th-ranked Fresno State.
