DENTON, Texas (Ticker) -- Safety Paul McClendon returned a fumble and an interceptions for touchdowns as Texas Tech cruised to a 42-14 victory over North Texas. McClendon's six-yard fumble return opened the scoring with 5:53 left in the first quarter and the Red Raiders (2-0) never were challenged. Texas Tech opened a 21-0 halftime lead on Kliff Kingsbury's four-yard TD toss to Cole Roberts and Ricky Williams' nine-yard run in the second quarter. McClendon's interception return made it 28-0 before North Texas (0-3) got on the board on Scott Hall's 10-yard pass to George Marshall with 20 seconds to go in the third quarter. Kingsbury completed 35-of-46 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns while Williams ran 19 times for 94 yards. Richard Bridges and Hall combined to complete 14-of-32 passes for 125 yards and two interceptions for the Mean Green. Kevin Galbreath rushed for 129 yards on 20 carries. Texas Tech evened the all-time series at 4-4. North Texas opened the season with a 19-5 loss to Texas Christian and a 37-10 setback to defending national champion Oklahoma.
