ATHENS, Ohio (Ticker) -- Ennis Haywood rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns as Iowa State built a 17-point lead and held on for a 31-28 victory over winless Ohio. The leading rusher in the Big 12 Conference last season, Haywood carried 33 times and lifted Iowa State (2-0) into a 14-14 tie with a seven-yard TD on the opening play of the second quarter. His 66-yard scoring dash late in the third gave the Cyclones a 31-14 cushion. Ohio (0-3) rallied in the fourth quarter on a pair of touchdown catches by Joe Mohler. He hauled in a 31-yarder from Dontrell Jackson with 11:56 to play and a 53-yarder from tailback Chad Brinker with 5:25 to go. Iowa State, however, was able to hold the ball the rest of the way as Seneca Wallace had key third-down completions to Lane Danielsen. Wallace was 15-of-28 for 250 yards and a pair of interceptions. Brinker ran 11 times for 140 yards and Jackson added 78 yards and a TD on 19 carries. He also completed 7-of-11 passes for 98 yards and a TD. The Cyclones extended their lead in the series to 6-0. They have won 10 of their last 14 games overall for their best stretch in 40 years.
