EUGENE, Oregon (Ticker) -- Joey Harrington is living up to his nickname as "Captain Comeback." Harrington engineered a 61-yard drive that set up Jared Siegel's 32-yard field goal with 12 seconds left as seventh-ranked Oregon rallied for its 23rd straight home win, 24-22, over Southern California in a Pac-10 Conference clash. After Oregon forced the Trojans to punt, Harrington took over at his own 24-yard line with 65 seconds left and just one timeout. He tossed a pair of 22-yard passes to Kennan Howry that moved the ball to the USC 27 with 31 seconds to go. After a short completion and an Oregon timeout, Harrington found Jason Willis for a first down at the Trojans 15. Siegel came on and split the uprights, giving Harrington his eighth career fourth-quarter come-from-behind victory and second this season. Oregon (3-0, 1-0 Pac-10) had an earlier chance to take the lead, but David Rosenberg's 43-yard field-goal attempt was blocked by defensive end Bobby DeMars with 80 seconds to play. The Trojans rallied from a 15-point deficit, thanks to a pair of long touchdown passes by Carson Palmer. Palmer found running back Sultan McCullough for a 75-yard TD with 6:12 left in the third quarter to get USC (1-2, 0-1) within 21-19 with a 93-yard pass to Kareem Kelly 12 seconds into the fourth. It was the longest touchdown pass in Autzen Stadium history. The Trojans went for the tie but Palmer tripped on the two-point conversion try. David Davis' 39-yard field goal capped a six-play, 53-yard drive that gave USC its only lead, 22-21, with 10:20 remaining. The loss overshadowed a spectacular game by Palmer, who completed 25-of-40 passes for 411 yards. His only blemishes were three interceptions by Oregon defensive back Steve Smith. The Ducks opened a 21-6 lead early in the third quarter when Harrington hooked up with Justin Peelle for a 21-yard touchdown. Oregon opened the scoring when tailback Onterrio Smithtook a pitch from Harrington and tossed a 35-yard pass to Peelle in the first quarter. Davis booted field goals of 32 and 43 yards to get the Trojans within 7-6 with just over three minutes left before halftime but Smith picked off Palmer and returned it 38 yards for a score for a 14-6 lead at intermission. Harrington finished 22-for-35 for 188 yards and a touchdown. Oregon received a scare when wide receiver A.K. Keyes was taken off the field on a stretcher due to an undisclosed back injury in the second quarter. Keyes was taken to a hospital, where it was determined that he does have movement in all parts of his body.
