SYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- James Mungro rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns as Syracuse spoiled Auburn's first trip to the Empire State in 62 years with a 31-14 victory.

Mungro, who carried 23 times, became the 15th Syracuse player to eclipse the 2,000-yard mark in career rushing, raising his total to 2,088. He has five touchdowns in the last two games after running for 121 yards and two scores in a 21-10 victory over Central Florida on September 8.

Syracuse (2-2) has won two in a row after opening the sason with losses to Georgia Tech and Tennessee.

The Orangemen put together their best effort of the season after combining for 37 points in the first three games. Mungro's two-yard TD run tied it at 7-7 with 1:27 left in the first quarter and started a run of 28 straight points for Syracuse.

R. J. Anderson, who completed just 6-of-15 passes for 74 yards, rambled in from eight yards to put Syracuse ahaed with 3:40 to go in the first half.

Mungro reached the end zone from one yard out with 8:55 left in the third quarter, then scampered 20 yards to make it 28-7 five minutes into the final period.

Jason Campbell was 11-of-20 for 155 yards and was sacked four times for Auburn (2-1). Casinious Moore paced the Tigers on the ground with 62 yards on 13 carries.

Campbell gave Auburn a 7-0 lead with a 44-yard run midway through the first quarter before tossing a 21-yard TD strike to Chris Butler with 2:38 left in the game.

Auburn dropped to 0-4 all-time in New York. Its last appearance in the state was a 7-0 loss to Manhattan College in 1939.

The Tigers and Orangemen were meeting for the first time since their 16-16 tie in the 1988 Sugar Bowl.
