MORGANTOWN, West Virginia (Ticker) -- Brad Lewis passed for 286 yards and two touchdowns and Avon Cobourne rushed for 181 yards on 35 carries as West Virginia cruised to a 34-14 victory over Kent State. Lewis picked apart Kent State's secondary, completing 27-of-34, including TD strikes of 40 yards to Antonio Brown and 11 yards to Phil Braxton in the third quarter. Lewis also had an eight-yard TD run in West Virginia's 21-point third period and moved into ninth place on the school's all-time passing list with 3,186 yards. West Virginia (2-1) opened a 27-0 lead before the Golden Flashes (1-2) got on the board on Joshua Cribbs' 84-yard TD run with 1:59 left in the third quarter. But the Mountaineers answered quickly and put away the contest on Lewis' TD run with 23 seconds left in the period. After Brenden Rauh kicked field goals of 33 and 20 yards in the first quarter, West Virginia grabbed a 13-0 halftime lead on Cobourne's one-yard TD plunge with 37 seconds remaining in the half. The score capped a 12-play, 59-yard drive. Cribbs accounted for 261 yards of total offense, completing 13-of-31 for 117 yards and rushing for 144 yards on 20 carries. But he also threw two interceptions and did not get much help as Kent State was held to 293 total yards. Cribbs' TD run was the longest by a West Virginia opponent in new Mountaineer Field history. He also became the first Kent State quarterback to pass and rush for more than 100 yards since Patrick Young did it in 1986 against Central Michigan.
