TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Jason Guesser passed for 283 yards and two touchdowns and Dave Minnich rushed for 120 yards and three scores, leading unbeaten Washington State to a 48-21 Pac-10 Conference triumph over Arizona. The Cougars (3-0, 2-0 Pac-10) never looked back after safey Lamont Thompson scored on a 36-yard interception return just 70 seconds into the game. Just 4 1/2 minutes later, Minnich ran eight yards for a touchdown to cap a 76-yard drive and give Washington State a 14-0 lead with just over nine minutes remaining. The Cougars recovered the ensuing onside kick and quickly made it 21-0 as Guesser hit Minnich with a 29-yard TD pass. Washington State scored again before the opening quarter was over. Linebacker James Price intercepted a tipped pass and returned it to the Wildcats 8-yard line. Two plays later, Guesser found Mike Bush for a six-yard score. Bush had seven receptions for 110 yards. Clarance Farmer got Arizona on the board with a 31-yard run with 4:43 left in a wild first quarter. Exactly a minute later, Guesser was sacked and fumbled, with defensive lineman Austin Uku carrying the ball two yards for a touchdown. The Wildcats (3-1, 0-1) climbed within 28-21 early in the second quarter as Jason Johnson hooked up with Bobby Wade for a 23-yard score, capping an 87-yard drive. The Cougars answered with their own 87-yard drive, using 18 plays and just over eight minutes before Minnich went in from the 6-yard line to make it 35-21. Drew Dunning kicked a 24-yard field goal to cap Washington State's first possession of the second half and Minnich plunged in from two yards, extending the lead to 45-21 with 5:49 left in the third quarter. Dunning's 49-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter completed the scoring. Johnson completed 13-of-25 passes for 184 yards for Arizona, which was outgained, 421 yards to 266. The Cougars held the ball for just over 37 minutes.
