BLOOMINGTON, Indiana (Ticker) -- Freshman Lydell Ross made a big impact in his first start of the season as Ohio State opened Big 10 Conference play with a 27-14 victory over Indiana. Ross, who was listed second on the depth chart and had only rushed for 20 yards and six carries in his first two games, ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns against the Hoosiers. Despite the loss, Indiana's Antawn Randle-El became the first player in college football history to rush for 3,000 yards and pass for 6,000 yards. He completed 14-of-21 passes for 181 yards and also threw his 35th career TD pass to tie Steve Bradley's Indiana record. With Ohio State trailing 7-3, Ross scored his first touchdown on a five-yard run with 12:07 remaining in the second quarter to give the Buckeyes their first lead. He had four straight carries during the 10-play, 84-yard drive before reaching the end zone. Ross added a one-yard TD run with 23 seconds remaining in the second quarter to stake Ohio State (2-1, 1-0 Big 10) to a 17-7 halftime lead. The Buckeyes made it 20-7 on Josh Huston's 20-yard field goal with 9:48 remaining in third quarter. Indiana (0-2, 0-1) drove 89 yards on eight plays to close within 20-14 on Randle-El's 44-yard TD pass to Levron Williams. But Ohio State sealed its 10th straight victory over Indiana on Jonathan Wells' seven-yard TD run with 10:37 to go in the fourth period.
