RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Darian Durant threw a pair of touchdown passes to Kory Bailey as North Carolina avoided a letdown with a 17-9 win over North Carolina State in an Atlantic Coast Conference game. The Tar Heels (2-3, 2-1 ACC) posted one of the biggest wins in the 111-year history of the program in last week's 41-9 rout of Florida State. North Carolina was sluggish in the first half, but took control after intermission. Durant opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Bailey in the first quarter before the Wolfpack made it a one-point game on a 23-yard TD pass from Philip Rivers to Dovante Edwards later in the period. Jeff Reed kicked a 36-yard field in the middle of the second quarter to increase the lead to 10-6 and Durant connected on a 19-yarder to Bailey 1:39 into the final period. Durant, who again split time with Ronald Curry, completed 10-of-14 passes for 128 yards. Curry was 5-of-7 for 58 yards. Rivers completed 24-of-43 passes for 306 yards, but it was not enough to prevent North Carolina State's first loss of the season. Ray Robinson carried 14 times for 71 yards for the Wolfpack (2-1, 0-1), who lost to the Tar Heels for the eighth time in the last nine meetings. Adam Kiker kicked a 31-yard field goal for North Carolina State in the fourth quarter.
