PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Marc Hickok kicked a 47-yard field goal with 3:04 remaining as Connecticut rallied to defeat Rutgers, 20-19, for its first victory of the season. Hickok's field goal, his second of the game, helped the Huskies (1-3) erase a 16-10 halftime deficit. Connecticut, which joins the Big East in 2005, earned its first win over a future conference opponent. The Huskies were 3-8 after making the jump to Division 1-A last season, defeating Division I-AA Colgate, Buffalo and Akron. After getting outscored by a combined 111-0 in back-to-back conference losses to Miami and Virginia Tech, the Scarlet Knights (1-3) likely expected to even their record against Connecticut. But Rutgers got more than it bargained for from the Huskies, who opened the season with a 52-10 loss to Virginia Tech. Connecticut took a 17-16 lead on Dan Orlovsky's 30-yard touchdown pass to Tommy Collins with 4:15 remaining in the third quarter. Rutgers got its only points of the second half on Ryan Sands' 22-yard field goal with 9:05 remaining in the fourth period. The Huskies jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first period on Karon Henry's 24-yard TD run and Hickok's 46-yard field goal. But freshman Ryan Cubit tossed two TD passes in the first half for the Scarlet Knights, who scored 16 straight points to take the lead at halftime. Cubit got Rutgers on the board with a 19-yard TD pass to Delri Fletcher with three seconds left in the first period. After the Scarlet Knights tied it on Sands' 38-yard field goal, Cubit found Tres Moses for a 10-yard TD with 2:13 remaining in the half. Connecticut prevailed despite being held to 215 total yards. Orlovsky completed 12-of-25 for only 103 yards with an interception. Cubit also struggled throughout, connecting on just 12-of-28 for 132 yards with two interceptions. Marcus Jones rushed for 89 yards on 20 carries for the Scarlet Knights.
