NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- Mewelde Moore rushed for a career-high 201 yards and Patrick Ramsey tossed a pair of touchdown passes as Tulane earned its first win of the season with a 41-7 rout of 1-AA Southern University. Moore carried 25 times for his fourth 100-yard rushing effort and also caught five passes for 70 yards. Ramsey overcame five sacks to complete 18-of-36 for 269 yards. Southern held an early 7-6 edge, but Ramsey's 50-yard TD pass to Royde Williams gave Tulane (1-4) the lead. The two also hooked up for the conversion pass that made it 14-7. Ramsey added a 1-yard TD plunge and Seth Marler booted a 50-yard field goal to give the Green Wave a 24-7 halftime edge. Lynar Elpheage's 64-yard punt return for a touchdown extended the lead to 31-7 before Ramsey found Carl Davis for an eight-yard touchdown strike and a 31-point cushion after three quarters. Marler's 23-yard field goal with 11:34 left in the game provided the final margin. Southern (2-2) got its only points on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Terrance Levy to Jeremy Williams with 1:18 left in the first. The Green Wave outgained the Jaguars, 493-355, and forced three turnovers.
