RENO, Nevada (Ticker) -- Dominique Dorsey ran for 180 yards and a touchdown as previously winless Nevada-Las Vegas ground out a 27-12 victory over intrastate rival Nevada and retained the Fremont Cannon.

Dorsey, a freshman, carried 18 times, including a nine-yard TD run 87 seconds into the fourth quarter that gave UNLV (1-4) a 17-6 lead. He led a rushing attack that amassed 313 yards.

Joe Haro had 56 yards and a score on 16 carries and quarterback Jason Thomas added 50 and a TD on 11 rushes for the Rebels, who lost their first four games after going 8-5 last year.

It marked the first time in John Robinson's coaching career -- college or NFL -- that he dropped the first four games of the season.

Haro's four-yard TD run with 8:58 to play in the third quarter erased a 6-0 halftime deficit. Dillon Pieffer kicked a 27-yard field goal before Dorsey's scoring jaunt.

Nevada (1-3) cut the deficit to 17-12 with 7:23 remaining on a nine-yard TD run by Chance Krestschmer, who had 163 yards on 23 carries. But Pieffer kicked a 41-yarder and Thomas scored from three yards out.

Thomas completed 6-of-15 passes for 80 yards. David Neill was 10-of-27 for 99 yards and an interception and Zac Threadgill was 10-of-15 for 66 yards for the Wolf Pack, who also ran for 243 yards.

The Fremont Cannon is college football's biggest and most expensive prize. Nevada holds a 15-11 lead in the all-time series but has lost two in a row following a five-game winning streak.
