CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Darian Durant passed for 151 yards and two touchdowns as North Carolina reached .500 under first-year coach John Bunting by rallying for a 24-21 victory over East Carolina.

After a rugged early schedule, the Tar Heels (3-3) have reeled off three straight wins. The streak started with a 41-9 drubbing of Florida State on September 22.

North Carolina spotted the Pirates a 10-0 lead after the first quarter, but Durant started the comeback with a 29-yard TD pass to Chesley Borders with 5:25 remaining in the second quarter.

Ronald Curry tossed a five-yard TD strike to tight end Zach Hilton with 10:10 remaining in the third quarter to give the Tar Heels a 14-10 lead.

East Carolina (2-3) closed within one on Kevin Miller's 36-yard field goal with 5:51 left in the third, but Durant found Sam Aiken for a 21-yard TD and a 21-13 lead three minutes into the final period. Durant completed 11-of-17 with no interceptions.

Jeff Reed booted a 49-yard field goal to make it 24-13 with 2:48 remaining.

East Carolina capped the scoring on David Garrard's six-yard TD toss to Art Brown with 23 seconds to play.

Leonard Henry rushed for 105 yards on 18 carries for East Carolina, but Garrard completed just 9-of-23 for only 109 yards.

North Carolina increased its lead in the all-time series to 7-1-1.
