HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Quarterback Kyle Herm ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns as Rice continued its best start in 41 years with a 45-14 romp over Boise State in a Western Athletic Conference game. Herm rushed 21 times and also completed 4-of-6 passes for 86 yards as Rice (4-1, 2-0 WAC) is off to its best start since going 5-1 start in 1960. The Owls amassed 430 yards on the ground in their first meeting with Boise State. Leroy Bradley's one-yard plunge gave Rice a 7-0 lead with 6:34 left in the opening quarter. Sean White had a one-yard run to make it 14-0 with 6:49 left in the second. Just 42 seconds later, Herm ran in from 14 yards out to stretch the lead to 21-0. The 5-8 sophomore capped a nine-play, 52-yard drive with a three-yard run to give the Owls a 28-0 advantage with 3:07 to go in the second. Boise State (2-3, 1-1) finally got on the board when Ryan Dinwiddie completed a 20-yard TD pass to running back David Mikell 66 seconds before halftime. Dinwiddie was 19-of-30 for 342 yards and an interception, but the Broncos gained just 34 yards on 21 rushes. Boise State also lost two fumbles, while the Owls did not commit any turnovers. Rice scored on its first possession in the second half on Brandon Skeen's 31-yard field goal, while Robbie Beck and Clint Hatfield also had TD runs for Rice in the third quarter. Donny Heck had an eight-yard TD run just over two minutes into the fourth quarter for Boise State's other score.
