SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Lance Rice threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns as Utah trounced South Florida, 52-21, in the first meeting between the schools.

Rice, a sophomore who started three games as a freshman, completed 16-of-21 passes. Two of his TD passes went to Josh Lyman, who had seven receptions for 117 yards.

Adam Tate rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries for the Utes (4-1), who raced to a 38-0 lead and amassed 509 yards in their third straight win.

Dameon Hunter, who totaled 77 yards on 19 carries, ran four yards for a score before Rice found Lyman with a 43-yard TD pass that made it 14-0.

Paris Jackson caught a six-yard scoring toss late in the first quarter. In the second period, Ryan Kaneshiro kicked a 27-yard field goal and Rice and Lyman hooked up again on a 34-yard TD pass in the final minute, pushing the lead to 35-0.

On the first play after forcing a punt on the opening possession of the third quarter, Lyman and Tate collaborated on a 62-yard TD pass.

After South Florida finally got on the board on a seven-yard TD pass from Marques Blackwell to Brian Fisher, Tate banged in from a yard and defensive back Dave Revill returned an interception 52 yards for a score, making it 52-7 with 13:31 to play.

Blackwell and backup Ronnie Banks threw TD passes to close the scoring. Blackwell was 28-of-55 for 281 yards and two TDs.

Huey Whittaker caught nine passes for 101 yards and Hugh Smith had five for 106 and a score for South Florida (2-3), which has alternated wins and losses since the start of the season.

The game featured 23 penalties for 235 yards.
