BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Ticker) -- Cincinnati scored a pair of defensive touchdowns to remain unbeaten in Conference USA play with a 31-17 victory over Alabama-Birmingham. After spotting UAB a 10-0 first-quarter lead, the Bearcats (3-2, 3-0 C-USA) responded with 17 unanswered points, including LaVar Glover's 38-yard interception return for a touchdown that gave Cincinnati a 21-10 lead just 53 seconds into the second half. UAB (2-4, 1-2) closed to 21-17 on Jeff Aaron's 24-TD pass to Roddy White with 8:30 left in the third period, but linebacker Antwan Peek returned a blocked punt four yards for a touchdown to give Cincinnati a 28-17 cushion with 3:09 left in the quarter. Jonathan Ruffin capped the scoring with a 38-yard field goal midway through the final period. Aaron's four-yard TD run and Nick Hayes' 44-yard field goal staked the Blazers to their early 10-0 lead. But Cincinnati got on the board on Gino Guidugli's eight-yard TD pass to Jon Olinger 48 seconds into the second period and took a 14-10 lead on Ray Jackson's one-yard TD run with 41 seconds left in the half. Guidugli completed 12-of-20 passes for 154 yards and an interception for the Bearcats. Jackson paced Cincinnati on the ground with 48 yards on 15 carries. Aaron connected on just 9-of-23 passes for 120 yards and was sacked four times. Jegil Dugger rushed for 85 yards on 23 attempts.
