PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Tanardo Sharps rushed for 149 yards on 18 carries and the defense did not allow a touchdown as Temple cruised to a 30-5 Big East Conference victory over Rutgers. Behind Sharps, Temple run for 193 yards while holding Rutgers to just 32 yards on the ground. In the first half, which saw Temple open a 27-3 lead, the Owls rushed for 163 yards on 23 yards and Rutgers a net of minus-11 on 14 attempts. On Rutgers' first possession of the game, Delrico Fletcher negated a 39-yard pass reception when he fumbled. Temple (2-3, 1-1 Big East) took over at its 41 and later took a 3-0 lead on Cap Poklemba's 38-yard field goal. Poklemba added a 32-yarder later in the first quarter before the Owls broke it open with 21 points in the second period. Mike McGann completed just 10-of-23 passe for 170 yards, but tossed TD strikes of 13 yards to Greg Muckerson and 45 yards to Sean Dillard in the quarter. Rutgers (1-5, 0-4) has suffered five straight losses under first-year coach Greg Schiano after a season-opening win over Buffalo. The Scarlet Knights got their only points on Ryan Sands' 38-yard field goal in the second quarter and a safety in the final period. True freshman Ryan Cubit completed just 17-of-41 for 171 yards for the Scarlet Knights. He was sacked five times and also threw three interceptions.
