MADISON, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- Jeff Smoker and T.J. Duckett proved to be quite a 1-2 punch.

Smoker passed for three touchdowns and Duckett ran for a pair of scores as Michigan State helped add to the defensive woes of Wisconsin with a 42-28 victory in a Big Ten Conference game.

Smoker had scoring strikes of five yards in the first half, and 12 and 87 yards in the second half. Smoker went 13-of-20 for 306 yards.

The sophomore also scored on an eight-yard run late in the third quarter, giving the Spartans a 35-21 advantage.

Charles Rogers, who was on the receving end of Smoker's 87-yard TD pass early in the fourth quarter and finished with five catches for 206 yards. He also was on the receving end of a five-yard TD pass in the second quarter.

Duckett, a brusing tailback, did the job on the ground, carrying 23 times for 186 yards, including touchdown runs of one and 43 yards.

Herb Haygood also had a touchdown reception for Michigan State (4-2, 2-2), which broke open the game by outscoring the Badgers, 28-14, in the second half.

In losing their last two home game, Wisconsin (4-5, 2-3) has surrendered an astounding 105 points. Three weeks ago, the Badgers matched a school record for points allowed in a 63-32 thrashing at the hands of Indiana.

Lee Evans was even better than Rogers, catching nine passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns. He had TD receptions of 42, 30 and 70 yards and fell 24 yards shy of Al Toon's school record for receiving yards in a game.

Jim Sorgi and Matt Schabert split time at quarterback for Wisconsin. Sorgi went 10-of-19 for 191 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions while Schabert was 10-of-18 for 177 yards with two scores and an interception.
