FORT WORTH, Texas (Ticker) -- East Carolina rode Leonard Henry's legs and David Garrard's arm to a big lead, then withstood a furious second-half rally to defeat Texas Christian, 37-30, in a Conference USA matchup. Henry rushed 14 times for 96 yards and three touchdowns, two in the first half, to surpass the 1,000-yard mark for the season. Garrard accounted for 117 of his 221 passing yards on two scoring strikes in the final five minutes of the first quarter to open a big lead. East Carolina (5-3, 4-0 C-USA) moved a half-game ahead of second-place Louisville atop the conference standings. TCU (4-4, 2-2) fell into a fifth-place tie. After TCU's Nick Browne kicked a career-long 47-yard field goal 3:04 into the contest, Henry put the Pirates ahead for good with a spectacular, 21-yard run. He took an option pitch from Garrard, ran down the left sideline and leapt from five yards out to avoid a defender. Henry did a somersault off a teammate's back and landed in the end zone. Garrard connected with running back Richard Alston on a 51-yard TD down the right sideline and hooked up with running back Art Brown for a 66-yard score on consecutive first-quarter drives to stretch the Pirates' lead to 20-3. Henry scored again on an eight-yard run in the final minute of the first half to open a 24-point lead. He is the first East Carolina player to rush for 1,000 yards in a season since 1986. TCU came roaring back in the second half. Casey Printers was 24-of-50 for 319 yards and led the Horned Frogs to four touchdowns over the final 23 1/2 minutes. His 12-yard toss to Adrian Madise with 1:49 left in the fourth quarter cut the deficit to 37-30. After the Horned Frogs recovered the ensuing onside kick, Printers marched them to the East Carolina 10-yard line. But on 4th-and-goal with five seconds to go, Printers' final pass to the end zone was batted away as East Carolina escaped.
