TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Chris Lewis threw three touchdowns passes in the first half as 19th-ranked Stanford routed Arizona, 51-37, in a Pac-10 Conference game. Lewis connected twice with Teyo Johnson and once with tailback Luke Powell as Stanford (6-2, 5-2 Pac-10) grabbed a 24-10 lead with just over seven minutes to go in the first half. Lewis completed 13-of-23 passes for 169 yards as the Cardinal rebounded from a 42-28 loss at Washington and won for just the second time in the last nine meetings with Arizona. Lewis was making his third straight start while Randy Fasani recovers from a knee injury. "I had a lot of good quality time. It made my feel more relaxed on the field," Lewis said. "It was fun out there. Now I look forward to the rest of the season. The Pac-10 is weird. You have to play hard every week otherwise you will lose." Brian Allen carried 23 times for a career-high 144 yards, eclipsing by six yards the mark he set at Washington last week. Arizona (4-6, 1-6) amassed 578 yards in total offense, but turned the ball over five times and lost for the sixth time in seven games. "I'm really disappointed," Arizona coach John Mackovic said. "We had a couple where we just dropped the ball. We had guys breaking away for long runs and they just got the ball knocked loose. Usually in the Pac-10 you figure 32-35 points should win it. "You've got to figure everybody moves the ball in the Pac-10 up and down the field quickly," Mackovic added. "There are no slam-bang games in this league like in other leagues I've coached in. Teams in the Pac-10 just refuse to play conservatively." Jason Johnson was 14-of-28 for 260 yards and a touchdown and Clarence Farmer rushed 12 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns for the Wildcats. Farmer has 1,071 yards, becoming the eighth player ever from Arizona to reach 1,000 yards. Mike Biselli kicked a pair of field goals for Stanford. He gave the Cardinal the lead 4:06 into the game with a 29-yard field goal. Farmer turned his fourth reception of the season into a 43-yard touchdown to give the Wildcats a 7-3 advantage with 8:28 left in the opening quarter and Sean Keel added to the lead 4:21 later when he kicked a 22-yard field goal. Lewis found Teyo Johnson for a 23-yard score to tie it with 2:02 left in the first. Stanford went ahead for good, 17-10, when Powell had a 26-yard TD just 55 seconds into the second quarter. Johnson lobbed a pass to the 6-7 Teyo Johnson to push the margin to 24-10 with 7:06 left in the second. Biselli added a 44-yard field goal 48 seconds before haltime and Keel's career-long 52-yard field goal came as time expired. On the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter, Bobby Wade caught a pass on the left sideline, but Stanford linebacker Matt Friedrichs stripped the ball. Safety Tank Williams caught the ball it in midair at the 25 and rumbled to the end zone for a 34-13 lead just 14 seconds into the third. The Wildcats managed to hold onto the ball on their next possession and Keel booted a 43-yard field goal 1:41 later to trim the deficit to 34-16. Arizona was driving again on its next possession, but Williams sacked Johnson and linebacker Coy Wire picked up the ball at the 11 and went 89 yards for a 41-16 bulge with 7:32 to go in the third. "I was really happy with my play tonight," said Wire, who had four tackles. "It was tough with players out, but the backups were ready to step it up. I am happy about the win, but I was disappointed with the points given against our substitutes." Stanford added to its lead as Kenneth Tolon broke a tackle in the backfield and burst 71 yards to make it 48-16 with 3:54 left in the third. Arizona's fifth turnover led to a 21-yard field goal by Biselli for a 51-16 lead with 10:44 left in the fourth. Farmer scored on TD runs of 20 and 66 yards. Freshman John Rattay, the younger brother of San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Tim Rattay, threw a 21-yard pass to Malosi Leonard for the final margin with 4:17 left. "We made some big plays and we thought we could win it, but they returned two touchdowns from fumbles and it was just freaky stuff," Leonard said. "We got 578 yards total offfense? That's amazing. But 578 doesn't mean much when you lose. Figure it, that's about 100 yards for each of those five turnovers and we lose. But you should win with 578 yards. I just couldn't believe some of the things that were happening out there."
