HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Kyle Herm threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Rice gained a school-record 653 total yards in 59-32 Western Athletic Confeernce rout of Tulsa. Herm scored on a 42-yard run to open the scoring and added touchdown passes of 58 yards to Halfback Leroy Bradley and 19 yards to Gavin Boothe for a 24-7 lead early in the second quarter. Backup quarterback Greg Henderson added a 26-yard touchdown to Gilbert Okoronkwo as Rice (7-3, 4-2 WAC) took a 38-13 lead into the locker room. Clint Hatfield dashed 75 yards for a touchdown to open the second-half scoring and Vincent Hawkins added a 12-yard TD run for a 52-13 lead entering the final quarter. The Owls' spread offense proved lethal as they rushed for 498 yards, led by Hawkins' 115 yards on eight carries. Hatfield carried six times for 94 yards and Herm added 75 yards rushing. Henderson gained 61 yards rushing on 11 carries while fullback Robbie Beck contributed 52 yards. Forced to pass, Tulsa (1-8, 0-6) received a strong effort from freshman Tyler Gooch, who completed 21-of-37 passes for 204 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Gooch also scored on a 49-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
