KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Casey Clausen passed for five touchdowns -- three to Donte' Stallworth -- as sixth-ranked Tennessee continued its dominance in November with a 49-28 victory over Memphis. The Volunteers (7-1) have won both of their games this month, improving to 62-3 in November since 1985. They have a chance to improve on that mark with upcoming games against Southeastern Conference doormats Kentucky and Vanderbilt. On Saturday, Clausen made sure the Volunteers would continue their November success, throwing touchdown passes of 17, three, 33, 14 and 35 yards. He went 22-of-35 for 298 yards with one interception. "I thought we played better," Clausen said. "The big thing today was balance. We started out fast. That was the big thing this week. We knew coming in, it would be a big test for us." Sparked by Clausen, the Volunteers had a relatively easy time with their intrastate rivals who have given them trouble of late. The previous two games between the teams were decided by a total of three points. Tennessee improved to 18-1 in the all-time series. Stallworth, who has been overshadowed by freshman sensation Kelley Washington, had TD receptions of 33, 14 and 35 yards. He finished with seven catches for 142 yards. "We wanted to come out and pass today," Stallworth said. "We just had to make plays." Travis Stephens added 114 yards rushing for the Volunteers, who held a 42-7 lead entering the fourth quarter before Memphis scored 21 straight points to make the final score respectable. "I am pleased with the win," Tennessee coach Phillip Fullmer said. "I thought our guys took the preparations all week. I like the fact that we are improving in a lot of ways." Danny Wimprine passed for two touchdowns for Memphis (4-5). "I knew coming in here we couldn't get way down early," Memphis coach Tommy West said. "I thought at one time we got into a rhythm but we didn't play well." Tennessee had its offense in high gear from the start, moving 87 yards in eight plays on the game's intial drive. Clausen capped the march with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jason Whitten. Claussen extended the Volunteers' lead 22 seconds into the second quarter, finding Troy Fleming with a three-yard scoring play. Less than two minutes later, Neil Suber threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Meadows to get the Tigers on the board. But that was some of the only success for Suber, who went just 6-of-16 for 95 yards and an interception before being pulled in favor of Wimprine. Clausen answered that touchdown with a 33-yard scoring strike to Stallworth with 8:12 left in the half and Alex Walls kicked a 27-yard field goal with 61 seconds remaining before intermission, making it 25-7. Walls kicked a 24-yard field goal early in the third quarter and Clausen threw touchdown passes of 14 yards to Stallworth and 16 yards to Derrick Tinsley later in the period. With the game out of reach, Wimprine ran one yard for a touchdown and had scoring passes of 25 and 10 yards in the first 11:01 of the fourth quarter, bringing the Tigers within 42-28. Wimprine finished 12-of-21 for 186 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Clausen capped his big afternoon with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Stallworth with just over two minutes left.
