NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Jared Lorenzen threw for a season-high 453 yards and a career-high six touchdowns to lead Kentucky to a 56-30 rout over Vanderbilt in a Southeastern Conference matchup. Lorenzen completed 26-of-37 passes and threw three touchdowns in each half to lift the Wildcats to their first conference victory of the season. He had never thrown more than three touchdowns in a game. Derek Abney caught seven passes for 113 yards, tight end Derek Smith had four catches for a season-high 130 yards and Tommy Cook had five receptions for a 77 yards. Abney, Smith and Cook each caught a pair of touchdown passes. The game was tied, 13-13, when Lorenzen connected with Cook on a 21-yard score with 11:50 left in the first half to give Kentucky (2-7, 1-6 SEC East) the lead for good. Seth Hansen kicked a 27-yard field goal to extend the lead and Jamal White returned a fumble 82 yards for a touchdown to give the Wildcsts a 30-13 cushion a minute before halftime. The Commodores scored a touchdown 1:24 into the third quarter to pull within 30-20, but Lorenzen responded with a 51-yard touchdown pass to Smith just 80 seconds later. Lorenzen capped a 72-yard drive with a nine-yard TD pass to Abney with 5:40 left in the third and connected with Cook on a 28-yarder late in the fourth as Kentucky pulled away. Although the teams put up nearly identical numbers offensively, Vanderbilt (2-7, 0-6) was penalized 14 times for 133 yards and committed the only two turnovers of the game. Vanderbilt's Greg Zolman completed 29-of-45 passes for 441 yards and two touchdowns. He also was intercepted once and sacked four times, including three by Kentucky's Dennis Johnson, who moved into second place on the school's all-time list with 17.5 career sacks. The maligned Vanderbilt offensive line has allowed 10 sacks in in the Commodores' last two games. Zolman became Vanderbilt's all-time leader in completions with 556, moving one ahead of previous record-holder Whit Taylor, who played for the Commodores from 1979-82. Zolman already has broken Taylor's school record for passing yards and is now within four of breaking the school's all-time mark for touchdowns, also held by Taylor. Dan Stricker caught 12 passes for a career-high 204 yards and two touchdowns for Vanderbilt. Rodney Williams had four catches for a season-high 102 yards and rushed for 85 yards on 18 carries.
