PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Pittsburgh completed its remarkable turnaround with a 24-6 victory Alabama-Birmingham, then accepted an invitation to the Peach Bowl following the game. The Panthers (6-5), who needed a win to become bowl eligible, were like two different teams this season. They suffered a five-game losing streak after a season-opening win over East Tennesseee State, but rebounded from a 1-5 start with five straight victories. David Priestley helped seal the bowl invitation by completing 15-of-29 passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns -- all in the first half. He threw TD passes of six yards to Antonio Bryant and 43 yards to R.J. English in the first quarter, then found Lamar Slade for a 24-yard TD strike that gave the Panthers a 21-0 lead early in the second period. Priestley has thrown 15 touchdown passes during Pittsburgh's winning streak. Marcus Furman paced the Panthers on the ground with 71 yards on 17 carries. UAB (6-5) was held to a pair of field goals by Nick Hayes, one in the second quarter and one in the third period. Thomas Cox completed 16-of-36 passes for 198 yards for the Blazers, who were held to just 76 yards rushing. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for UAB, which is hoping to land one of Conference USA's four bowl bids.
