PONTIAC, Michigan (Ticker) -- Ray Jackson's hands weren't as reliable as Chester Taylor's legs. Taylor rushed for a Motor City Bowl record 190 yards and the go-ahead touchdown with 3:23 left as Toledo held off Cincinnati, 23-16, in its first postseason appearance under coach Tom Anstutz. Quarterback Tavares Bolden added 235 all-purpose yards and a TD run for the Rockets (10-2), who set a Motor City Bowl record with 321 rushing yards while holding the Bearcats (7-5) to 13. Freshman Gino Guidugli completed 29-of-46 passes for 283 yards and a touchdown for Cincinnati, which lost the Motor City Bowl for the second straight year. Marshall had represented the Mid-American Conference in each of the previous four Motor City Bowls before Anstutz guided Toledo to a 41-36 victory over the Thundering Herd in this year's league title game. One of the best running backs in the country no one has ever heard of, Taylor hit one of the huge holes provided by his offensive line and scored the decisive touchdown from 24 yards. The Bearcats had a chance to tie it in the final minute, but safety Andy Boyd stripped Jackson in the end zone, preventing a 5-yard touchdown pass. |
