OXFORD, Mississippi (Ticker) -- Eli Manning did not need his "A" game against Louisiana-Monroe.
Considered by some to have an outside shot at the Heisman Trophy, Manning completed 17-of-31 passes for 192 yards as Mississippi posted a 31-3 season-opening victory over the Indians.
Louisiana-Monroe (0-1) took a 3-0 lead on Tyler Kuacker's 37-yard field goal with 6:02 left in the first quarter and held the Rebels scoreless for the first 15 minutes.
But Ole Miss (1-0) took control with 21 points in the second period. Manning put the Rebels ahead for good with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Bill Flowers 77 seconds into the quarter.
Robert Williams, who rushed for 100 yards on 18 carries, scored on runs of four and one yard to give the Rebels a 21-3 halftime lead.
Daniel DePatro completed just 8-of-20 passes for 96 yards and was intercepted twice for the Indians. Bryant Jacobs rushed for 103 yards on 23 carries.
Flowers had six receptions for 78 yards, while Mike Espy grabbed four passes for 42 yards for Mississippi.
