OXFORD, Ohio (Ticker) -- Brad Banks passed for 256 yards and a touchdown and Fred Russell rushed for 150 yards and a score to lead Iowa to a 29-24 victory over Miami of Ohio.
Banks, who completed 18-of-27 passes, gave the Hawkeyes (2-0) a 29-17 cushion by tossing a 48-yard TD strike to C.J. Jones with 11:44 left in the contest.
Iowa overcame a strong game from Miami's Ben Roethlisberger, who completed 33-of-51 passes for 343 yards and three TDs. He found Jason Branch for a 24-yard score to pull the RedHawks within 29-24 with 4:54 to play.
However, Miami was held to just 14 yards on the ground.
Russell carried 32 times and rushed for all but 38 of Iowa's 188 yards on the ground. His four-yard TD run opened the scoring with 5:50 left in the first period.
Nate Kaeding kicked a 27-yard field goal with 1:02 left in the first half to snap a 10-10 tie, then converted a 49-yarder 6:36 into the third period to make it 16-10.
Miami took its only lead, 17-16, when running back Cal Murray recovered a fumble in the end zone with 3:01 left in the thid period.
Iowa answered quickly, driving 67 yards in just four plays to grab the lead for good, 22-17, on Jermelle Lewis' 12-yard TD run with 1:31 left in the third.
Iowa has won both meetings between the teams, posting a 44-19 victory in Iowa City last season.
