JONESBORO, Arkansas (Ticker) -- Arkansas State handed Tulsa its 12th straight loss, 21-19, as Antonio Warren rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns in his first college start.
A sophomore who did not play last season, Warren carried 32 times and scored on runs of 10 and two yards to give Arkansas State (1-2) a 21-12 lead six minutes into the fourth quarter.
Tulsa climbed within two points with 6:45 to play on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Tyrone Gooch to Caleb Blankenship. The Golden Hurricane, whose skid is the longest in Division I-A, got back the ball with 1:55 remaining, but Gooch was sacked three times.
The win was Steve Roberts' first since coming over from Northwestern State.
Quarterback Elliot Jacobs scored on a two-yard keeper with just under six minutes to go in the opening period to give the Indians a 7-3 lead. Jacobs carried 11 times for 10 yards and completed just 6-of-14 passes for 46 yards as Warren did most of the damage.
After Warren's 10-yard TD early in the third quarter, Tulsa recorded a safety on a bad punt snap, then closed to 14-12 on a two-yard run by Gooch.
Gooch was 14-of-27 for 168 yards but was sacked six times.
