TEMPE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Linebacker Josh Amobi and defensive end Connor Banks returned interceptions for touchdowns in an 81-second span of a huge third quarter as Arizona State roared back for a 46-13 victory over Central Florida.
Arizona State (2-1) erupted for 29 points in the third quarter, turning a three-point halftime deficit into a 39-13 lead.
Backup Andrew Walter started the decisive period with a 13-yard scoring strike to Shaun McDonald.
Defensive end Terrell Suggs sacked Ryan Schneider in the end zone for a safety and Walter connected with McDonald on a 26-yard touchdown to make it 25-13 with 3 1/2 minutes to go in the quarter.
Just 17 seconds later, Amobi raced 21 yards with an interception. Banks picked off backup Brian Miller and rambled nine yards for a score.
Walter came off the bench and completed 4-of-5 passes for 54 yards after Chad Christensen went 5-for-12 for 66 yards.
Schneider was 7-for-24 for 150 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions before leaving with an injury late in the third quarter.
