STILLWATER, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Cory Paus continued his climb in the ranks of UCLA quarterbacks, throwing for three touchdowns and running for another in a 38-24 win over Oklahoma State.
Paus increased his total of career TD passes to 35, moving past Tommy Maddox (33) and Wayne Cook (34) into fourth place on the school's all-time list. Troy Aikmen is next with 41. Cade McKnown is first with 68.
The senior quarterback completed 13-of-27 passes for 277 yards with an interception. He leapfrogged Cook for fifth place in career completions with 355.
Oklahoma State (1-2) raced to a 10-0 lead, but UCLA (2-0) took control with 31 unanswered points. Paus started the run with a 41-yard TD pass to Craig Bragg.
Just 19 seconds later, Spencer Havner returned an interception 23 yards for a score, giving the Bruins the lead for good, 14-10, with 4:42 left in the first quarter.
Chris Griffith added a 33-yard field goal to close the scoring in the opening period. Paus then found Mike Seidman from 27 yards for a 24-10 halftime cushion.
Just 2:20 into the third quarter, Paus hooked up with Ryan Smith for a 25-yard TD. After an Oklahoma State touchdown made it 31-17, Paus scored on a three-yard run.
Akil Harris and Manuel White combined for 150 yards rushing for UCLA, which won the first meeting between the schools.
Josh Fields completed 20-of-40 passes for 291 yards with a TD and three interceptions for the Cowboys. Rashaun Woods and John Lewis combined for 14 catches and 256 yards receiving.
