STORRS, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Tanardo Sharps rushed for a career-high 223 yards and one touchdown as Temple defeated future Big East foe Connecticut, 38-24.
After the Huskies cut a 20-point deficit late in the third quarter to 30-24 on a five-yard run by Terry Caulley with nine minutes to play, Sharps scored on a 26-yard run and Zamir Cobb completed a two-point conversion pass with 2:48 to go to cap the scoring.
Makonne Fenton took the opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown to put Temple (3-4) ahead for good. The Owls have won back-to-back games following a four-game losing streak.
Dan Orlovsky went 21-of-38 for 251 yards, one TD and two interceptions for UConn (2-5), which will join Temple in the Big East in 2005. It was the Huskies' third straight defeat.
Mike McGann struggled for Temple, connecting on just 8-of-23 attempts for 117 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Owls outgained the Huskies on the ground, 242-21, but had the ball for nearly three fewer minutes.
