HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Art Brown scored four touchdowns, including a 25-yard run on the first play from scrimmage in the third overtime, as East Carolina posted a wild 54-48 Conference USA victory over Houston.
Brown finished with 132 yards on 27 carries and has scored 16 TDs this season, overshadowing the performance of Houston's Joffrey Reynolds, who passed for 300 yards
Reynolds also had four touchdowns and forced a third overtime with a 25-yard run.
But Anthony Evans fumbled on Houston's second play in the third overtime and Christshawn Gilliam recovered for East Carolina.
The Pirates (3-5, 3-1) forced overtime by rallying from a 34-17 fourth-quarter deficit. Brown had a pair of TDs during the comeback and forged a 34-34 tie with a one-yard run with 2:34 left.
Following Brown's third TD of the game, Reynolds fumbled at his own 44 and the Pirates recovered, reaching the 15 before Kevin Miller's 32-yard field goal attempt was wide right with five seconds left
In the first overtime, Houston (4-5, 2-4) took a 41-34 lead when Brandon Middleton caught a 24-yard TD pass from Nick Eddy. But East Carolina forged a tie as Paul Troth connected with Torrey Morris for a four-yard TD.
Troth found Richard Alston for a 20-yard TD in the second overtime to make it 48-41, but Reynolds scored on the first play from scrimmage to force a third extra session.
Reynolds' 300 yards and 40 attempts set school records, surpassing Paul Gipson's 1968 marks. He also went over 1,000 yards rushing when he ripped off a 72-yard TD run on the third play of the game. Reynolds has 19 touchdowns and 1,261 yards overall this season.
Eddy completed 8-of-22 passes for 201 yards, while Troth was 22-of-33 for 369 yards and threw three touchdowns.
