CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Derrick McKnight rushed for a career-high 205 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries as Boston College closed the regular season with a 44-14 Big East Conference victory over Rutgers.
McKnight surpassed his previous career high of 171 yards set last week against Syracuse and went over the 100-yard mark for the eighth time this year. The junior raised his season total to 1,367 yards and also caught a 52-yard TD pass.
The Eagles (8-4, 3-4) overcame a poor performance by Brian St. Pierre, who completed just 9-of-23 passes for 157 yards with three interceptions. St. Pierre did have a pair of TD passes.
Boston College took the lead for good, 10-7, on Brandon Brokaw's six-yard TD run with 1:44 left in the first period.
St. Pierre and McKnight hooked up to make it 17-7 with 4:19 left in the second quarter before Sand Sciortino kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired to give the Eagles a 20-7 lead at the intermission.
McKnight's three-yard TD run 3:20 into the second half ignited a 24-point third quarter for the Eagles.
Ryan Hart completed 16-of-30 passes for 115 yards with a pair of interceptions for the Scarlet Knights (1-11, 0-7). Jason Nugent paced Rutgers on the ground with 106 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries.
The Scarlet Knights concluded another dismal year with a nine-game losing streak. Rutgers went winless in the Big East for the third straight year and has dropped 22 consecutive conference games.
