The Star	Rex Grossman, QB, Florida Like clockwork, Grossman completed 22-of-37 for 302 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.
The Skinny	It could have been much worse, with three UF drives ending in fumbles, but the Gators still managed 567 yards of offense. Earnest Graham and Robert Gillespie combined for 152 yards on 24 carries and Gillespie, Jabar Gaffney and Reche Caldwell all had at least 80 receiving yards.

The Star	Eric Crouch, QB, Nebraska Just another day at the office. Crouch threw for three touchdowns, runs for two and totals 262 yards in offense.
The Skinny	Who scheduled this game? After the week-plus layoff, Nebraska looked as polished as ever against the creampuff Owls. The Cornhuskers reached the end zone on their first three possessions, then opened a 28-0 second-quarter lead and cruised from there.

The Star	Chris Simms, QB, Texas One of his best performances to date -- 20-of-35 for 311 yards and three touchdowns, including a 92-yarder.
The Skinny	Houston hung around for 2½ quarters before Texas turned the game into a rout. The Longhorns scored 30 straight points in the second half, including two one-yard scores from Ivan Williams, who finished with 103 yards. Texas starts 3-0 for the first time since 1994.

The Star	Ryan Sims, DT, North Carolina Teamed with Julius Peppers to harass FSU's Chris Rix, notching two sacks and three tackles-for-loss.
The Skinny	Unbelievable. FSU's worst fears came true, as UNC's talented defense shut down all aspects of the Seminoles' depleted offense, producing four sacks and five turnovers. Despite struggling again (4-of-12), Heels QB Ronald Curry connected on two deep balls in the second half to help put the game away.

		No. 7 Oregon 24	at Eugene, Ore.

The Star	Joey Harrington, QB, Oregon Who else? Joey “Heisman” emulated Elway, taking Oregon 61 yards in 44 seconds for the winning field goal.
The Skinny	Trailing 21-6, USC found the end zone twice late, including a 93-yard, busted-coverage scoring pass from Carson Palmer to Kareem Kelly, and added a late field goal to take a 22-21 lead. Calmly, Harrington led Oregon within comfortable field goal range where Jared Siegel nailed it from 32 yards with 12 seconds left.

		No. 9 Virginia Tech 43	at Piscataway, N.J.

The Star	Grant Noel, QB, Virginia Tech Once again engineered a rout by throwing four touchdown passes and completing 17-of-23 passes for 164 yards.
The Skinny	The Hokies pounced to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter. Their defense made life miserable for Rutgers freshman QB Ryan Cubit, who threw four interceptions and notched only 51 yards on his 11 completions. RBs Kevin Jones and Keith Burnell combined for 164 yards on 31 carries.
The Future	Virginia Tech (3-0): Saturday vs. Central Florida Rutgers (1-2): Saturday vs. Connecticut
		No. 11 Fresno State 37	at Tulsa, Okla.

The Star	David Carr, QB, Fresno State Another sensational effort from the senior, who completed 23-of-29 for 314 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT.
The Skinny	All those rumblings of a Fresno State letdown? No sir. Led by Carr, who hooked up with favorite target Bernard Berian for 169 yards and two TDs, the Bulldogs offense rolled to 525 yards on a well-respected Tulsa defense. Hurricane QB Josh Blankenship (21-of-39, 199 yards) was foiled by two costly picks.

		No. 12 Kansas State 64	at Manhattan, Kan.

The Star	Josh Scobey, RB, Kansas State Scored four touchdowns, all before halftime, and piled up 112 yards on 16 carries.
The Skinny	K-State went up 50-0 at halftime and 64-0 midway through the third quarter before letting up. Its ferocious defense shut down NMSU's option attack, limiting starting QB K.C. Enzminger to 32 total yards. Wildcats QB Ell Roberson (7-of-10, 182 yards) was lethal, and WR Aaron Lockett returned a kick 90 yards for a TD.
The Man	Kansas State (2-0): Saturday at No. 3 Oklahoma N. Mexico State (0-4): Saturday at Louisiana-Monroe

The Star	Cody Pickett, QB, Washington Showed marked improvement in his second start, completing 15-of-20 for 162 yards.
The Skinny	It was a typically diverse Huskies win, with touchdowns coming on a Roc Alexander kick return, Charles Frederick punt return and blocked field goal return. The Vandals were doomed when QB John Welsh had to leave in the second quarter with a separated shoulder. UW lost star TE Jerramy Stevens to a broken foot.
The Man	Washington (2-0): at California Idaho (0-3): vs. Boise State
		No. 14 UCLA 13	at Pasadena, Calif.
		No. 21 Ohio State 6	• Game recap • Game summary
The Star	Robert Thomas, LB, UCLA Led the Bruins' latest impressive defensive effort with nine tackles, three for loss.
The Plan	UCLA gave the Buckeyes every opportunity, coughing up four fumbles, but OSU simply couldn't move the ball, converting only 1 of 14 third downs. The Bruins essentially pitched a shutout, with the Bucks' only TD coming on a punt block. Buckeyes QB Steve Bellisari was a dreadful 5-of-23 for 44 yards and 2 INTs.

The Star	Damien Anderson, RB, Northwestern Big numbers in three quarters' work: 23 carries, 189 yards and four TDs, with three catches for 61 yards.
The Skinny	As expected, the Wildcats moved the ball at will behind Anderson and QB Zak Kustok (21-of-31, 318 yards), totaling 638 yards. The depth of NU's receiving corps became apparent after starter Sam Simmons (2 catches, 63 yards) left with a broken finger, with nine different players catching at least one ball.

The Star	Bryson Spinner, QB, Virginia Threw two touchdowns, including the last second game-winner, and ran for a third all in the second half.
The Skinny	Virginia finally found a consistent quarterback in Spinner (15-of-25, 186 yards), who rallied the Cavs from a 10-0 deficit to a 20-10 lead. Woody Dantzler then engineered consecutive touchdown drives only to see Spinner and the Cavs win it with a 1-yard touchdown pass in the end.

		No. 18 South Carolina 16	at Starkville, Miss.

The Star	Andrew Pinnock, RB, South Carolina Rushed for 97 yards on 12 carries, including a 35-yard touchdown run to tie the game late in the first quarter.
The Skinny	South Carolina didn't arrive in Starkville until noon Thursday and as a result, the Gamecocks looked sluggish early. They woke up though, as their defense forced and recovered a fumble and picked off a Wayne Madkin pass leading to USC scores.

		No. 20 Michigan 38	at Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Star	B.J. Askew, RB, Michigan Scored three touchdowns, ran for a career-best 112 yards on 15 carries and caught five passes for 66.
The Skinny	The Broncos passed early and often, with QB Jeff Welsh going 35-of-57 for 357 yards, but UM limited the damage with two interceptions. Michigan struck both on the ground and through the air, with John Navarre (16-of-28, 240 yards, 2 TDs) spreading it around to four different receivers with at least 50 yards.
The Future	Michigan (2-1): Saturday vs. Illinois Western Michigan (1-2): at E. Michigan
		Illinois 34	at Champaign, Ill.

The Star	Christian Morton, CB, Illinois Picked off Louisville QB Dave Ragone twice, including one for a touchdown return.
The Skinny	In a battle of offensive juggernauts, Illinois' rolled while Louisville's stalled. The much-improved Illini defense sacked Ragone three times and forced five turnovers. Meanwhile, Kurt Kittner (18-of-39, 2 TDs, 2 INTs) accumulated 306 yards despite stud WR Brandon Lloyd getting only 19.

		Michigan St. 17	at South Bend, Ind.
		No. 23 Notre Dame 10	• Game recap • Game summary
The Star	Charles Rogers, WR, Michigan State Breakout game for the freshman, who caught four balls for 117 yards, including the go-ahead 47-yarder.
The Skinny	In a defensive struggle, Notre Dame was hurt by its continued inability to throw downfield and converted only 3 of 14 third downs.Meanwhile, Ryan Van Dyke (9-of-13, 144 yards) excelled as half of MSU's rotating quarterbacks, throwing for both of the Spartans' touchdowns.
The Future	Michigan State (2-0): Saturday at No. 16 Northwestern Notre Dame (0-2): Saturday at Texas A&M
