By Greg Biggins, StudentSports.com

Anthony Martinez, the 6-3, 225 pound quarterback from Ashland (Va.) Patrick Henry, has committed to Virginia.

Martinez, the No. 60 prospect on TheInsiders 101, had been leaning to the Cavs since the summer but decided to make it official after getting into a car accident over the weekend.

"I was driving to the dump when one of my tires went out on me," Martinez said. "When I tried to compensate for it, the car started spinning out of control and I landed in a ditch. Luckily, I wasn't hurt too bad, just had a few bruises here and there. I'm pretty sore today and didn't practice, but I'll be able to play this weekend.

"That kind of put a scare into me though and definitely put things in perspective. I always said I wanted to take my trips and see what else was out there, but the accident made me think that there's no guarantees in this life and things can be taken from you pretty quickly. So I called up the coaches at Virginia last night and told them I was coming."

Martinez is a big, physical quarterback with a great arm. He was a member of this year's Student Sports Elite 11 Quarterback Campe, where he showed he's easily among the top handful of quarterbacks in the country. He throws a nice catchable ball and has the frame to stand tall in the pocket and absorb the punishment all quarterbacks receive.

On the year, Patrick Henry is 5-0 and ranked among the top football teams in the state. Martinez has thrown for just over 800 yards with eight touchdowns and just two interceptions.

"We should have a real good class and I'm going to start doing some recruiting now," Martinez said.

"Maurice Stovall is supposed to be at the Virginia-Florida State game this weekend so I'll get to talk to him then and I'm also planning on calling Ahmad Brooks and Kai Parham. I know they like Virginia a lot too."
