Bennettsville (S.C.) Malboro County quarterback Syvelle Newton had an extraordinary junior campaign, passing for over 1,790 yards and rushing for 1,990 yards with 44 total touchdowns.

"Syvelle is the real deal," said Malboro County Head Coach Dean Boyd. "He has a strong arm, speed, moves and is strong. Syvelle can juke you and run you over. He has great savvy and football instincts. This kid just makes plays."

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound athlete claims he is a better runner, but adds: "The bottom line is that I just try and go out there and makes a play."

According to Coach Boyd, Newton has at least 30 scholarship offers, but has one leader.

"I am favoring South Carolina. It is close to home and I can play early there. Those things are very important to me. I also like Clemson, Georgia Tech and Florida."

Newton has a brother, Cameroon, who plays free safety at Furman. It is important to him that his mother and father get to see him and his brother play college football.
