WISCONSIN 36, SAN DIEGO ST 10

Ron Dayne rushed for 145 yards and four touchdowns as Wisconsin rolled to a 36-10 victory over San Diego State.

Mike Samuels missed on just one of his 13 passes and threw for 176 yards as the Badgers (3-1) led 22-0 at halftime and scored the first 29 points. Dayne scored twice on one-yard runs and had scoring scampers of eight and 31 yards.

Matt Davenport kicked three field goals and Wisconsin picked up a safety when it blocked a punt out of the end zone.

Kevin McKechnie threw a late TD pass to Az-Zahir Hakim for the Aztecs (1-2), who have given up 103 points in their three games.

The Badgers opened the scoring 4:19 into the contest on a 19-yard field goal before Dayne made it 10-0 on a one-yard plunge with 3:21 left in the first quarter. Wisconsin ran 23 plays and held the ball for 10:57 of the first 11:39 of the contest.

Dayne bowled in from one yard in the final minute of the first quarter to make it 17-0 before Davenport kicked a 45-yard field goal 4:34 into the second quarter. Wisconsin made it 22-0 when defensive back Tim Rosga blocked a punt out of the end zone.

Dayne had TD runs of eight and 31 yards around a 20-yard field goal by Nate Tandberg that bumped the lead to 36-3 in the first minute of the fourth quarter.

Wisconsin converted 8-of-13 third-down plays and had 365 yards of total offense.
