NCAA Football Recap (San Jose St-Wyoming) Posted: Sat September 20, 1997 at 9:48 p.m. EDT WYOMING 30, SAN JOSE ST 10Marques Brigham rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown and Wendell Montgomery caught seven passes for 103 yards, leading Wyoming to a 30-10 Western Athletic Conference victory over San Jose State. Wyoming (3-0, 2-0 WAC) opened the scoring when Jeremy Silcox fired a five-yard TD strike to Julian Hooker with 10:05 left in the first quarter. Cory Wedel kicked field goals of 44 and 27 yards before San Jose State (0-3, 0-1) cut the deficit to 13-7 at the half on James Hodgins' five-yard run with 4:48 remaining in the second quarter. After Wedel and San Jose State's David Silverstein traded third-quarter field goals, Wyoming closed the scoring with two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Brigham's 27-yard scamper capped an eight-play, 87-yard drive with 10:06 left. Greg Van Leer ended any chance for a comeback by the Spartans by returning a fumble 90 yards for a score with 4:27 remaining. Silcox completed 14-of-29 passes for 156 yards and backup Jay Stoner connected on 4-of-14 passes for 67 yards.
