College Football Scoreboards Schedules Standings Polls Stats Conferences Teams Players Recruiting` NCAA Football Recap (Texas A&M-North Texas)

Posted: Sat September 27, 1997 at 9:10 p.m. EDT

D'Andre Hardeman ran for two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the third quarter, and Kyle Bryant booted three field goals as Texas A&M cruised to a 36-10 victory over North Texas at Texas Stadium in Irving.

Hardeman's two-yard scoring run up the middle two minutes into the third quarter snapped a halftime tie and put the Aggies ahead to stay, 17-10. Bryant connected on field goals of 48, 27 and 51 yards.

Texas A&M scored 16 points in the final quarter to put away the game. Bryant's 51-yarder three minutes in made it 23-10 before quarterback Randy McCowan's first career TD run, a one-yard plunge at 5:52. Hardeman's nine-yard TD jaunt at 13:34 expanded the margin to 36-10.

Texas A&M (3-0), which won its first two games of the season by a combined score of 125-6, won its sixth straight game against the Mean Green, outscoring them 270-46.

"We9ve got a lot of respect for North Texas," coach R.C. Slocum said. "They are a talented team and they played very hard. We came out in the first half and made some mistakes but I thought we kept playing hard and corrected those mistakes in the second half."

Sirr Parker's seven-yard scamper 11 minutes into the game, capped a six-play, 79-yard drive and gave the Aggies a 7-0 lead.

Bryant's 48-yarder six minutes later made it 10-0 before Garrett Courtney got North Texas on the board with a 48-yarder of his own, cutting the lead to 10-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Bo Harrison caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Jason Mills, two minutes into the second quarter, culminating a nine-play, 80-yard drive to knot the score at 10-10. It was the first offensive score the Aggies' defense allowed all season.

Donte Hall continued his fine season, rushing for 156 yards on 19 carries. The sophomore back, who has run for 365 yards in three games, finished with a career-best 225 all-purpose yards.

"This is the type of game we were expecting, and I think it was the type of game we needed," said Hall. "We had played two blowouts and really weren9t getting good looks. So it was good to play in a tough game like this before we play Colorado. I can9t wait to play Colorado."

Parker finished with a career-high 124 yards on 17 carries and Hardeman added 51 on nine attempts. The Aggies' four rushing touchdowns give them 16 for the season.

Parker and Hall became the first A&M running back duo to rush for 100 yards apiece in the same game since Eric Bernard (115) and Hardeman (121) did it last year against Baylor.

Hall is averaging a whopping 10.4 yards per carry and has 209 rushing yards thus far. Led by the backfield trio of Hall, Parker and Hardeman, the Aggies are averaging 6.3 yards per carry and have 12 touchdowns on the ground.

Mills completed 16-of 25 passes for 120 and Hut Allred ran for 49 yards on 11 carries for North Texas.
