Jacksonville State edges Eastern Illinois 28-21
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Washaun Ealey rushed for 155 yards and Calvin Middleton ran for two 1-yard touchdowns Saturday
night as Jacksonville State held off Eastern Illinois 28-21 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Ealey, a transfer from the University of Georgia, carried 24 times and accounted for more than half of Jacksonville State's
294 yards rushing. The Gamecocks (3-1, 2-0) also got 96 yards on the ground from Middleton. After each team scored a touchdown
in each of the first three quarters, Middleton's 1-yard burst in the fourth period gave Jacksonville State the victory.
Eastern Illinois (1-3, 0-2) got a fine passing performance from Jimmy Garoppolo. He completed 20 of 32 attempts for 214 yards
and two touchdowns. But Garoppolo was also intercepted twice. His counterpart, Gamecocks quarterback Coty Blanchard, hit on
13 of 19 passes for 121 yards and two short touchdowns, one each to Justin Howard and Trey Smith.
