SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- With visions of a Bowl Championship Series bowl berth, No. 10 Utah will try to avoid a letdown when it takes on San Diego State on Saturday in a Mountain West Conference matchup.

In the latest BCS poll released Monday, Utah (7-0, 3-0 MWC) was ranked sixth, a position that would guarantee the Utes a trip to one of the four major bowls. But in order to remain there when the final poll is released on December 5, the Utes must win their final four games.

Utah comes off an impressive 63-28 victory over UNLV last week in which it jumped out to a 28-0 lead and cruised thereafter.

Quarterback Alex Smith threw three touchdown passes and ran for another in the rout. For the season, Smith has completed 109-of-170 passes for 1,607 yards and 15 TDs with just two interceptions, and he has also rushed for eight scores.

San Diego State (2-5, 0-3) has dropped four in a row after a 2-1 start that included a hard-fought 24-21 loss at Michigan.

The Aztecs are coming off last week's 19-9 loss at New Mexico in which they were limited to minus-19 rushing yards on 30 carries.

The series is tied, 11-11-1, with Utah holding a 4-1 edge since the MWC was formed in 1999.
